Bucksport Fire & Rescue is seeking a Full Time Fire Fighter/EMT. The Town of Bucksport is a community of 5000 people, and we also provide Fire/EMS coverage to the community of Verona and EMS coverage to the community of Orland under contractual arrangements, which adds several thousand people to the coverage area. The community is in the process of significant economic development activity at the former site of the VERSO mill, has an excellent school system, many amenities such as a mile-long waterfront walkway, hiking trails, and an expanding local business community, and is within 18 miles of Belfast, Ellsworth, and the Bangor/Brewer region. The community has a bright future and we are looking for a motivated Firefighter/EMT to join our team. Bucksport Fire & Rescue is a small combination with a full time Deputy Chief and 6 full time firefighters supported by a staff of 25 paid per call employees. We respond to upwards of 1200 calls a year involving fire and medical emergencies.

The position we are seeking to fill is that of a Full Time Firefighter/EMT. Minimum qualifications include, Firefighter 1 certification (FF 2 preferred) and currently licensed as an EMT (Paramedic preferred). Other certifications that will be considered are EVOC, Maine Class A/B License, and Haz-Mat Ops to name a few.

The shift consists of a 24-hour work day that follows a repeating pattern consisting of 24 ON/48 off/24 ON /96 off/24 ON/48 off/24 ON/24 off/24 ON/48 off/24 ON/24 off. The workweek consists of an average of 53 hours/week with built in comp time and wages starting at $16.84 an hour. Top rate of pay with longevity is $24.04 an hour. Insurance is a deductible plan provided through Allegiant Care (Northern New England Benefit Trust) covering Health, Dental and Vision with employee contributions amounting to 20% of the premium cost which at this time is $70 bi-weekly for the single plan. The Town of Bucksport participates in Social Security and the Maine State Retirement System providing with employee contributions a 25/55 plan, (a 457 plan through ICMA is also offered without an employer match).

The Bucksport Fire & Rescue Department has a residency requirement for its full time employees of 25-miles from the station.
